Finally, the Biography by Rüdiger Safranski has been translated into English und offers the English reading public a finde work about a truly exceptional man of lettres.
When I studied in the US, I often wondered and was surprised that professors did research in areas they didn't speak the language of. The were totally dependent of translations and assistence by cheap academic beginners. For me it was incomprehensible that one would indulge into Habermas, Nietzsche, Hölderlin or Heidegger, not being trained in the German language.
Therefore I welcome the translation of Safranski's work because it might brighten the view of some Americans on this pillar and corner stone of German culture.
